There is no doubt that post-secondary institutions in all countries rose to the occasion as the pandemic bedded in and spread rapidly and widely. Our institutions proved their resilience, at least in the short term, but there are many lessons to be learned and shared. This first webinar in our WFCP – PIN series seeks to bring those lessons to the fore, through the stories of our members.

In particular, given the disruption and uncertainty brought about by covid-19, and the absence of a “playbook” for responding to the pandemic, what type of leadership worked best, and what are the implications of this for leadership development for the future – given that similar disruptions may well occur? How do post-secondary organisations ensure they are prepared for the next crisis?

This webinar, which will emphasise personal leadership, will be anchored by two very experienced leaders: Denise Amyot and Joe Sertich – see bios below. However, the intention is for this to be a participative and interactive event in which we will hear our colleagues’ stories and from which we will create a “playbook” for “next time”.

Denise Amyot

Denise is President/CEO of Colleges and Institutes Canada, the voice of Canada’s colleges, institutes and polytechnics, and is an international leader in education for employment.

Denise has played a significant leadership role during the pandemic in advocacy, capacity building and knowledge mobilization to support her members and the learners they serve, while inspiring and growing her organization to meet new demands and adapting to a new reality. That intense period is characterized by a drive to succeed in a challenging environment, and a sense of urgency in cultivating a whole new appreciation for the college and institute system by stakeholders.

Joe Sertich

Joe is President Emeritus of the Northeast Minnesota Higher Education District of which he was the founding President. He is President/CEO of Longyear Incorporated of Chisholm and has owned and operated the Chisholm Ambulance Service since 1983

Joe believes the global pandemic has taught us important lessons about resiliency, and as a former leadership coach and someone who has been responding to emergencies since he was 25 years old, he believes leadership development is the best resource to positively affect the disruption and uncertainty of a COVID 19 environment.

This webinar is the first in a series of three, leading up to the WFCP – PIN Leadership Summit in Maui, October 2021.

These leadership events constitute the 2021 activities of the WFCP Leadership Affinity Group.
