UNESCO is pleased to share the third issue of the Shanghai Update newsletter. The newsletter is available in English, French or Spanish.
Shanghai Update provides an overview of the activities undertaken by UNESCO including the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre as a follow up to the outcomes of the Third International Congress on Technical and Vocational Education and Training, known as the Shanghai Consensus.
This issue features the outcomes of the UNESCO-UNEVOC Global Forum on Skills for Work and Life Post-2015, the ongoing work on World Reference Levels, the review of UNESCO’s Strategy for TVET, and the winners of the UNESCO-UNEVOC Skills in Action Award. Details are also given of publications and forthcoming events. In particular I would like to recommend our new book on TVET: Unleashing the Potential: Transforming Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
In view of steadily rising expectations on TVET systems, the authors take stock of contextual demands and recent policy trends from around the world. The authors ask, ‘What would it take to unleash the potential of TVET systems?’ In response, an integrated analytical approach is proposed through which economic growth, social equity and sustainability perspectives can be strategically combined so as to address contemporary policy concerns such as youth unemployment, gender disparities and climate change.
The book is available online and can be ordered through UNESCO Publishing.
