We are thrilled to share the diverse and enriching experiences from the recently concluded WFCP Congress 2024 held in the vibrant city of Montego Bay, Jamaica. This year’s congress brought together educators, students, and professionals from around the globe to discuss and advance the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Here are some highlights from a student attendee:
Student Experience by Chisom Okongwu, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Canada
Highlights of the Congress: The WFCP Congress 2024 was an unforgettable experience for me. Engaging in meaningful discussions on AI in education, the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and youth empowerment were among the highlights. Additionally, immersing myself in Jamaican culture and connecting with fellow students from around the world was truly enriching.
Standout Sessions: One session that particularly stood out was the workshop on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by Pat Bidart. The session provided deep insights into the UN SDGs and their relevance in today’s world. Our group discussions emphasized the importance of global collaboration to achieve sustainable development.
Another memorable session was Alvin Day’s presentation on leadership and life skills. His dynamic and engaging delivery inspired me to strive for excellence in my personal and professional life.
Impact on TVET Perspective: The congress broadened my perspective on TVET, especially through Dr. Taneisha Ingleton’s presentation on HEART NSTA’s efforts to promote education. Their inclusive approach and dedication to making education accessible to all were truly inspiring. This experience has motivated me to advocate for the advancement of TVET in my community and beyond.
