We are thrilled to share the diverse and enriching experiences from the recently concluded WFCP Congress 2024 held in the vibrant city of Montego Bay, Jamaica. This year’s congress brought together educators, students, and professionals from around the globe to discuss and advance the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Here are some highlights from a WFCP Board Member and representative of the award-winning Duoc UC:
Collaboration and Global Learning for Technical Education by Marcela Arellano Ogaz, Director of Community Engagement and Institutional Integration – Duoc UC, Chile
A Space for Exchange and Reflection: Participating in the WFCP Congress was a great experience, providing a space for conversation, exchange of best practices, and collective reflection. The lessons learned motivate me to continue contributing to the continuous improvement, quality, and relevance of TVET in Chile and Latin America.
Key Highlights: The congress maintained a festive atmosphere and a spirit of collaboration, addressing relevant topics with a focus on ethical and human values. The launch of the Global Declaration on Artificial Intelligence and its recommendations for education was a significant milestone, emphasizing the importance of aligning technological advancements with the well-being of young people.
Global Insights: Attending various presentations allowed me to stay updated on the development of technical education in countries such as England, Canada, Australia, and Brazil. Learning about the technical education systems in Jamaica, the Caribbean, China, and Africa was particularly enlightening, as these regions are often less known in Chile.
Inaugural Speech: Denise Amyot’s inaugural speech connected us with the broader perspective of TVET’s contribution to human and professional development. Returning to Chile, I am inspired to influence public policy to make the TVET sector more visible and promote active participation from our region.
